May 28. 2009...

This spring, a female mallard duck built a nest near our garage door - this is a very busy spot at our house! We were shocked that she didn't abandon the nest because of all of the activity going on around her. She laid 11 eggs, and incubated them for 31 days, 24 hours a day. We were able to watch her on a daily basis as she became use to us spying on her!

On the 31 day all 11 of her eggs hatched. We all woke up early to see if we could see the babies - and we did! I was able to get pictures of the progression the momma and her babies took as they walked to the pond across the street. My daughter and I had a great time following them - the babies were so cute!

Here is a picture of the momma in her nest, you can see
the little babies poking their heads out from
underneath her.

Daddy duck was patiently waiting for his family at the pond, and the swam off into the sunset...

My family and I enjoyed a beautiful day hiking through the Chaska Aboretum! I ended up with over 500 pictures of flowers - the lighting was perfect and I was lucky to get a few good shots of the tulips before they hibernated. Here are a few of my favorites!
